Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

Duration - half day (theory) or 1 day with practical work based assessment.

The aim of this course is to cover the basics of identifying, measuring and controlling exposure to harmful substances and EH40. The training covers the COSHH legislation in detail, as well as the changes to legislation affecting CHIP/GHS and CLP.
It is aimed at anyone who is responsible for storing, using and handling hazardous substances, particularly those involved in manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport, utilities or offices.

The course covers:

  • Relevant legislation, including the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH)
  • Forms of chemical and biological agents
  • Classification of substances
  • Routes of entry
  • Health hazards of specific agents
  • The role of COSHH
  • Workplace exposure limits and other sources of information
  • Control measures
  • Surveys for health risks
  • Environmental issues

The full day course also includes a practical assessment which takes place around your workplace, allowing delegates to carry out a real Risk Assessment within the workplace.
