Service Avoidance

Duration - half day

This course is designed for anyone who needs to accurately trace and locate or avoid buried utilities services, including cables and pipelines.  The course covers both CScope and Radio Detection’s equipment.

The aim of the course is to enable delegates to gain a thorough understanding in the safe use of cable avoidance tools to enable them to locate cables and pipes safely.  This helps to avoid injury and costly damages during excavation works.

This training course covers the use of CAT and Genny location tools to meet the new HSG47 Health and Safety Guidelines .

The course is in 2 parts, a theory section, followed by practical use of CAT and Genny equipment.

Theory

  • Explanation of the “safe system of work” from the new HSG47 “Avoiding Danger from underground services”
  • Safe use of locators
  • Limitations of tracing equipment
  • Explanation, purpose and interpretation of Utility Plans
  • Marking up of Utility Plans , identifying marker posts, covers and any visible signs of utility routes
  • Safe digging practices
  • Safe use DVDS

Practical

  • Reading and scanning the area
  • Use of accessories
  • Practical Assessment

There will be a written assessment at the end of this course.
